Cellular Neurodegeneration Lab
Using disease in a dish models to study neurodegenerative diseases

About Us
Our research is aimed to study the molecular mechanisms altered in neurodegenerative diseases, with the ultimate goal of finding new molecular targets and effective treatments for these devastating syndromes.
To do so, we model neurodegenerative diseases in vitro using established cell models and neuronal models derived from iPSC. These disease-in-a-dish models are used to investigate the molecular mechanisms leading to neuronal death and serve as platforms for drug discovery.

Our laboratory is part of the Neurodegenerative Diseases Group at the Research Institute of Hospital 12 de Octubre (i+12 Institute). This is a multidisciplinary group composed by a team basic and clinical researchers that work together better understand the pathophysiological mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases, identify new therapeutic targets, and search for risk factors and biomarkers.
